3 Reasons We Can Be Bold
We live in a world full of fear and anxiety. As Christians, we need to ask God for boldness every day. It’s not always easy to be a Christian and there are times when we can be tempted to hide our faith. We don’t need to be ashamed or embarrassed of Christ or what we believe. We should talk about it with our friends, family, neighbors and on social media.
Proverbs 28:1 says, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
Christians have nothing to fear – we can be bold in serving Jesus. The wicked are not like this. They can’t live life bold. The wicked are afraid of everything. They’re afraid of death, of what others might think, of nuclear war, disease, politicians in Washington. They’re even afraid of their own shadow. The righteous are not like this. The righteous are as bold as a lion. We can go to church and worship God boldly, without fear of man or the future. Here are 3 reasons we can be bold as Christians:
1. We Are Covered by the Blood of Jesus
Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
We can boldly enter God’s presence because of the blood of Jesus. He takes away our guilt and shame and we don’t have to be shy or embarrassed. We can be bold because we are covered by His blood. It’s not our own righteousness that gives us boldness, it’s His. He has covered us, He has saved us. This gives us confidence to wake up every morning with joy and peace.
2. The Holy Spirit Is Inside of Us
Acts 4:21 says, “And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.”
We can’t do anything without the Holy Spirit. He gives us the power to pray, the power to worship, the power to persevere. We need the Holy Spirit every day that we wake up. In this verse it says they were “filled” with the Holy Spirit. These believers were already filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2, but this was a refilling. We need to be constantly filled up with the Holy Spirit. “It’s not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord.” It is His Spirit that will get the work done.
3. God Is in Control
In Matthew 28:18, Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
On the cross, Jesus was given all power and all authority. Sometimes bad things happen in this world, but somehow God is using it for His plan and His glory. Even when things look bad, we know that somehow God is using it for good.
If we had to plan the future, it would probably include safety, lots of money and big houses. But God knows what we need better than we do. We can trust in God and His ultimate plan. We don’t have to be afraid like the world, because we know God is in control.
We need boldness to live our every day lives and to speak the Word of God to those around us. We need boldness to pray for others. We need boldness to fight the forces of darkness. We need boldness to be a good husband, brother and friend. We need boldness to do the right thing even when it’s difficult.
